Question 1:  What great advances in civilization have Denmark, Sweden and Italy made in the last century?

Answer: Retail prostitution, Mr. Mom and the bunga bunga party.

Question 2:  What great advances in civilization has the United States made in the last century?

Answer:  The combustion engine. The assembly-line. The sewing machine. Commercial air travel. The computer. The Internet. The polio vaccine. The light bulb. The artificial heart. Jazz  etc., etc., etc.

But in the bizarro world of the America-defiling left, Denmark, Sweden and Italy shouldn’t be more like us, but rather, we should be more like them.

Folks on the left produce charts like the one below thinking that ordinary Americans will be as outraged as they are that we are not as enlightened as Slovenia. But the tactic always fails because the great majority of Americans, unlike the liberal elite, believe that the United States is the most affluent country in the history of the civilized world because it doesn’t overtax ambition, ingenuity and success.

In short, Americans believe that other countries should emulate the U.S. rather than U.S. emulate them. The left is utterly incapable of understanding this brand of grassroots patriotism.

This all begs the question: “What the hell is wrong with Chile and Mexico?” They need to get off their low-taxed butts and invent some stuff.

    Sam,

I didn’t say low taxes caused invention, but rather, that high taxes are a barrier to it.

But Kudos for a sporting try.
