Central Florida Man Who Stole 500K from IRS While Behind Bars Pleads Guilty

July 28th, 2010 · No Comments

ABC affiliate WTFV.com reports that William Albritton pleaded guilty to stealing a half million dollars from the IRS while in jail:

Documents WFTV obtained show William Albritton filed hundreds of fake tax returns and claimed prison guards, and even his mother, helped pull the scheme off.

While he was in prison for kidnapping, home invasion robbery and grand theft, Albritton found a way to make hundreds of thousands of dollars. He pleaded guilty to buying and stealing social security numbers from fellow inmates and using them to file fake tax returns from several Florida prisons.

Prosecutors say the Dunnellon man, his mother Barbara, and friends in Orlando and Clermont stole more than $400,000 from the IRS in four years.

The IRS might want to hire Albritton to help them catch other would be tax thieves. You know, sort of like the feds did with the Leonardo DiCaprio character in the movie Catch Me If You Can.
