The Fraser Institute has determined that the date of tax freedom day in Canada in 2010 was June 5:
Tax Freedom Day is the day in the year on which the average Canadian family has earned enough money to pay the taxes imposed on them by the three levels of government: federal, provincial, and local.
The Canadian tax system is complex and there is no single number that can give us a complete idea of who pays how much. That said, Tax Freedom Day is the most comprehensive and easily understood indicator of the overall tax bill paid by the average Canadian family. In 2010, Canadians celebrate Tax Freedom Day on June 5, three days later than in 2009.
Canadians can calculate their personal Tax Freedom Day using the Fraser Institute’s Personal Tax Freedom Day Calculator at www.fraserinstitute.org.
American taxpayers were emancipated on April 9, 2010, nearly two months before their Canadian counterparts.
So, when you go the polls this November, it would be wise to remember that some folks desperately want us to be like Canada.
