More Statistics Showing that the Rich Pay Bulk of U.S. Taxes

From Paul Caron, here is yet another study that shows that the rich pay a highly disproportionate share of federal taxes.

Of course, we shouldn’t expect this study to change the minds of the soak-the-rich crowd when the 50 studies preceding it that said the same thing were insufficient to do the trick.

Instead, the pro-tax crowd will attempt to diminish the sincerity and the intellect of those who produced the study and those who cite it as more proof that the notion that the rich are undertaxed is a palpable lie.

More specifically, I fully expect the income redistributionists to do one or both of the following:

  1. Accuse the producers of the study (in this case the CBO) of being puppets of the rich; and
  2. Claim that the study doesn’t take into account certain unprovable facts to which only they are privy

Here is an excerpt of the CBO’s charts that show the percentage share of various categories of taxes paid by the top 10%, 5% and 1% of income earners:
