Here’s a little list I put together to remind you of what needs to be done today:
- Make sure you understand every entry on your return before you sign it;
- Sign your return (both spouses must sign a joint return);
- Make sure your preparer has signed your return and your copy of the return;
- Retain the signed copy of your return for seven years;
- Electronically file your return or mail it, certified mail, return receipt requested;
- Retain proof of mailing;
- Write your social security number and the tax year and tax form number on any check you include with the return;
- Take Joe Kristan’s advice and file an extension if you are unsure of the accuracy of the return.
- If you are self-employed, make sure you know what your estimated tax payments are for 2010.
Happy April 15th!
