Chris Matthews is Outraged Because Rush Limbaugh Called Obama Administration a “Regime”

April 3rd, 2010 · 7 Comments

ChrisMatthewsNYTMagazineCover1It’s understandable that a man who gets sexually aroused when President Obama speaks would quickly rise to defend him from even the most minor of criticisms.

But is it too much to ask that this defense not be hypocritical?

This afternoon on his MSNBC show Hardball, Chris Matthews nearly busted a blood vessel because Rush Limbaugh ¹ referred to the Obama administration as – heaven help us all – a regime.

According to the Washington Examiner, here’s what Limbaugh said (emphasis added):

Merriam-Websters online dictionary defines the word “regime” as follows:

a : mode of rule or management b : a form of government c : a government in power d : a period of rule

In spite of the definition and Mr. Limbaugh’s apt usage of the word, Mr. Matthews still managed to get offended:

The use of the word “regime” in American political parlance is unacceptable and someone should tell the walrus to stop using it… I don’t even think Joe McCarthy called this government a regime.

Let me see if I got this straight: The word regime when used by Rush Limbaugh in reference to the Obama administration (undeniably the government in power) offended the hypersensitive Mr. Matthews. The same Mr. Matthews who, during the Bush regime, used the following words to describe President George Bush, Vice President Cheney and their administration:

In the bizarro world of Chris Matthews, then, referring to a Democrat ² administration as a regime (i.e. a  government in power) is worse than referring to a Republican administration as “criminal”, “Dracula”, the “enemy camp”, and a “bath tub ring.”

Today, thanks to the Internet, it’s incredibly easy to catch hypocrites like Chris Matthews in action. But for more than a half century – before cable television and the Internet - left-wing shills disguised as impartial journalists got away with this very thing.

By now, you’d think mainstream media dinosaurs like Matthews would have caught on and learned to be more careful. I mean, if he were half as smart ³ as he regularly tells us he is, he would have had someone research his own malignant statements before proceeding to demonize the benign statements of others.

Footnotes:

¹  For some reason Matthews refers to Limbaugh as “the walrus.” Apparently Chris is not a Beatles fan. If he were, he’d know that the walrus was Paul.

²  Matthews regularly gets bent out of shape when Republicans refrain from using the word “democratic” when referring to the Democrat party, yet he continues to refer to Dick Cheney as “Cheeny.” He has been corrected many times on air as well as in print but continues to mispronounce the Vice President’s name. Folks, where I come from this is called hypocrisy.

³  Although Matthews is obviously a tool, it is unlikely that anyone will accuse him of being the sharpest one in the shed.

Could we expect anything less of the leg-tingler? The guy worked for Tip O’Neill, for crying out loud! He should be looking for cures for LTD (leg-tingle dysfunction).

    Happy,

There is no “cure” for LTD just as there is no cure for man-crush, both of which seem to plague Mr. Matthews.

This is the most entertaining, amusing, and yes informational site I have even seen on taxes (& Shakespeare). I am going to recommend this site in my column National Tax Law Examiner.

Kudos Peter on a job well done! Best wishes in Stratford (I’ve been there!),

    Sami,

    Thanks for the kind comments.

Much more offensive to call someone a walrus than to call the US government a form of government.

    Steve,

    No doubt about that.
