Blood on Their Hands?

March 23rd, 2010 · No Comments

bloodhandsHere are a few car crash statistics published by the Federal Highway Administration:

  • There were nearly 6,420,000 auto accidents in the United States in 2005.
  • The financial cost of these crashes was more than 230 billion dollars.
  • 2.9 million people were injured and 42,636 people killed.
  • About 115 people die every day in vehicle crashes in the United States.
  • One person dies as a result of a car accident in America every 13 minutes.

If Democrats truly cared about saving American lives, instead of passing a $1 trillion healthcare bill, they could have simply passed a national speed limit of 45 mph or outlawed the use of automobiles altogether. Either of these measures would have saved more lives, especially young peoples’ lives (which, if you read the healthcare bill carefully you’ll see are much more precious to Democrats than the lives of elderly people), than 5 healthcare bills put together.

Of course, I’m not seriously suggesting we outlaw automobiles or even restrict their usage. But one of the tactics Democrats used to garner public support for their healthcare plan was to accuse those opposed to it of wanting to see Americans die. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and their congressional cohorts in the end managed to pass a wildly expensive and very tepid healthcare bill, but had to sink lower than Danny DeVito at a limbo party in order to do it.

So, were I a Republican Congressman I would immediately propose a bill that would without question save upwards of 40,000 American lives each year. I’d call it the Life Saving Act of 2010 and it would have just one provision:

The use of automobiles shall be prohibited except for use by emergency personnel, fire fighters, police, members of the military and other specified government workers.

Using the ad hominem standards set by Democrats, I would loudly and publicly accuse anyone voting against the Life Saving Act of having the blood of 40,000 Americans on his hands.

Let’s see who wants Americans to die.
