Killing the Tax Messenger

February 17th, 2010 · No Comments

Did you know that Professor Paul Caron is a Bolshevik for suggesting that the tax code requires that medal-winning Olympic athletes include the value of their gold, silver or bronze medals in their taxable incomes?

Joe Kristan writes in Explaining Something Doesn’t Mean You Agree With It that the good Professor received the following letter calling him a dastardly Muscovite for concluding that § 61 of the Code as written requires the inclusion in taxable income of the value of the medals:

caron letter

The only crying shame here is that America enfranchises such militant imbeciles.

If the author of this ridiculously stupid screed is representative of the intelligence of the average American citizen, I don black and mourn in advance the death of my country. ¹

I wonder whether the synaptically challenged author has sent similar letters to these un-American cretins:

  • The history Professor who explained to his students how Hitler came to power in Nazi Germany.
  • The biologist who wrote a paper explaining Darwin’s theory of evolution.
  • The anti-terror expert who described in a public speech the several ways Islamic fundamentalists will attempt to kill Americans.

The letter writer reminds me of the tax protestor who, when I tell him he must include in his taxable income the cash he received from his customers during the year, accuses me of being in cahoots with the IRS. ²

Footnotes:

¹ Think about it, this wingnut was so outraged at Mr. Caron for concluding (correctly, I might add) that the tax code requires that the receipt of an Olympic medal be included in taxable income that he took the time to write and mail a letter to the Professor rather than merely leave a comment or send him an e-mail.

² I immediately show him the door and advise him to stock up on canned foods.
