Florida congressman Alan Grayson wants to censor the free speech of American citizen Angie Langley because, he claims, she is running a website pretending to be a member of his voting district and saying things that hurt his feelings:
Grayson is so angry about a parody website that he wants the attorney general to prosecute its creator and imprison her for 5 years.
Grayson sent a four-page complaint to Eric Holder, accusing the woman behind MyCongressmanIsNuts.com of lying to federal election officials, reports the Orlando Sentinel. Among other things, the title of the site misrepresents her as one of his constituents, he says.
Let me see if I have this right. Grayson, a U.S. Congressman and an attorney, has called an American voter a fraud and has used his political clout to pressure the U.S. Attorney General to imprison her. And Mr. Grayson isn’t playing around, either. He wants Mr. Holder to bypass all that nonsense about due process and innocence until proven guilty and throw Ms. Langley straight into the hoosegow.
Abuse of power, ya think?
I don’t know whether Ms. Langley is or is not a constituent of Mr. Grayson, and frankly, I don’t care. Lying about where you live is not illegal and criticizing a sitting congressman is not only not illegal, it’s patriotic. You’ll recall that during the eight years of the Bush administration we were told ad nauseum by those on Mr. Grayson’s side of the aisle that voicing dissent is the single most America-loving thing a citizen can do.
Apparently, they were just kidding.
Now, I really am a member of Mr. Grayson’s district and in that capacity I have posted on my sidebar a permanent link to Ms. Langley’s website. I urge all of you to click on the link and visit the site. It’s quite excellent.
I support Ms. Langley for the following reasons:
1. She is telling the truth. Alan Grayson is off his rocker. He has accused Republicans and the millions of American citizens who support them of wanting to see people die quickly; has compared Republican opposition to Democrat healthcare reform proposals to the Holocaust ; and has called a female federal official a whore. If I were a relative of his, I’d have him Baker Acted; and
2. Mr. Grayson’s efforts to deprive Ms. Langley of her first amendment right to free speech is further proof of his nuttiness. It is also powerful evidence that he is supremely unfit for office. He is either completely ignorant of or, even worse, dismissive of the very document he has sworn under penalties of perjury to uphold: The United States’ Constitution.
Folks, this is a U.S. Congressman attempting to use his public position to intimdiate an American taxpayer into ceasing her criticism of him. I cannot imagine a clearer case of abuse of power. Can you?
