Tax News.com tells of yet another tax-the-rich proposal from Democrat leaders:
United States Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is understood to be drawing up plans for a new payroll tax on high-income earners to help fund the healthcare reforms called for by President Obama.
According to reports citing Democrats familiar with the plans, Reid intends to introduce his own version of healthcare reform legislation that will be partly funded by a proposed increase in the 1.45% payroll tax used to fund the Medicare program. It is thought that Reid’s bill would double this tax for those earning more than $250,000 annually.
Here is just a partial list of tax increases Obama and congressional Democrats have already proposed:
- Income tax - an increase in the top marginal rates from 35% to 39.6%
- Charitable Contributions – a scale back of the deduction benefit of charitable contributions
- Surtax - a 5.4% surtax on the income of single individuals making over $500,000 per year and married couples making more than $1,000,000 per year
When you look at the repeated and unrelenting efforts by Democrats to confiscate wealth from one class of Americans and give it to another class of Americans it’s hard not to believe they’d do away with the propertied classes altogether if they thought they could get away with it.
It isn’t unreasonable, irrational or unfair to call these people socialists. It’s merely accurate. If they don’t like it, they should just stop proposing socialistic policies.
