Today is October 15th and, in addition to being the due date for extended 1040s, it is the last day foreign investors can file for participation in the IRS’s voluntary disclosure program.
It’s not too late to file
Fortunately, even if you don’t have access to the records and information needed to file your amended tax returns and your Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR) you can still participate in the program by sending, certified mail, return receipt requested, a detailed letter requesting participation.
Amnesty is a good deal
This is an excellent opportunity for taxpayers to get back into the system and in the good graces of the IRS and to limit penalties and avoid criminal prosecution.
Last minute assistance is available
Our office will beĀ open until 5:00 pm today to file voluntary disclosure letters for taxpayers seeking to participate in the amnesty program.
