If the Cash for Clunkers program was supposed to jump-revive the American automobile industry it’s a colossal failure.
Here according to Docuticker are the top 10 vehicles bought by people trading their clunkers:
1. Toyota Corolla
2. Honda Civic
3. Ford Focus
4. Toyota Camry
5. Toyota Prius
6. Hyundai Elantra
7. Ford Escape (front-wheel-drive)
8. Honda Fit
9. Nissan Versa
10. Honda CR-V (four-wheel-drive)
Eight of the top 10 are foreign made cars and the other 2 are Fords.
Chrysler and GM apparently have a hard time selling their cars even when they’re partially free.

At least there are two fords in that list. American cars have built a macho, gas guzzler image while the Japs focused on economy, comfort, and even technology. If you notice, most cars there are economy cars, save for 2 or 3 mid-luxury vehicles. We got too comfortable, stubbornly hanged with the old ways and we failed to adapt.

Samuel,
I agree, American car makers got very arrogant.
