Show Me the Assault Rifle!

August 7th, 2009 · No Comments

ak47It’s not for nothing they call Missouri the “show me” state.

Listen to this doozy of a deal a Butler car dealer is offering its customers:

Buy a truck and get a free AK-47 gun.

That’s the deal a Missouri truck dealer is offering new customers who buy a pick-up truck in August.

Mark Muller, owner of Max Motors in Butler, says he knows people will be bothered by the promotion.

But not to worry, Muller is not handing out free guns. Instead, he will give buyers a voucher to use at a gun store after they obtain a license to carry a concealed weapon.

The AK-47 is an upgrade on a previous promotion in which Muller gave away vouchers for the price of a Caltec pistol.

The retail value of an AK-47 is $450 dollars but Muller says customers can spend their voucher on the gun of their choice.

What’s next, ho vouchers?

In 1899 U.S. Congressman Willard Duncan Vandiver (D-MO) said,

“”I come from a state that raises corn and cotton and cockleburs and Democrats, and frothy eloquence neither convinces nor satisfies me. I am from Missouri. You have got to show me.”

Since that time, legend has it, Missouri has been known as “the show me” state.

Missourans have taken a hankering to the saying believing it to mean that they never accept at face value what people tell them – to get a Missouran to buy what you’re selling, you’ve got to prove it to them.

But over the years its become a pejorative meaning that Missourans are so bass ackwards that you have to carefully explain even the most rudimentary concepts to them.

Like why handing out machine guns to the citizenry in the midst of an economic recession is stupider than an eyebrow ring.
