The United States Supreme Court issued it’s ruling in the Ricci firefighter case The Huffington Post reports:
The Supreme Court has ruled that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision that high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals court judge.
New Haven was wrong to scrap a promotion exam because no African-Americans and only two Hispanic firefighters were likely to be made lieutenants or captains based on the results, the court said Monday in a 5-4 decision. The city said that it had acted to avoid a lawsuit from minorities.
In the majority were Justices Kennedy, Scalia, Roberts (CJ), Thomas, Alit, with Kennedy writing the majority opinion.
In the minority were Justices Ginsberg, Stevens, Breyer and Souter, with Ginsberg writing the minority, dissenting opinion.

Question for readers: What effect, if any, will this decision have on Ms. Sotomayor’s confirmation?
My guess is nil.
Especially because the Court came down on traditional party lines with the four conservatives and the lone moderate (Kennedy) voting to reverse and the four liberals voting to affirm.
