Michael Caine to Move to America if Brit Tax Rate Goes to 51%

April 29th, 2009 · 13 Comments

“Whats it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we live?
Whats it all about when you sort it out, Alfie?
Are we meant to take more than we give
Or are we meant to be kind?”

 - Burt Bacharach, Alfie -

Maybe Andrew Lloyd Webber was right.

Telegraph.co.uk reports that British actor Michael Caine, star of the 60′s classic, Alfie, is fed up with high taxes.

Here’s Caine:

The Government has taken tax up to 50 per cent, and if it goes to 51 I will be back in America. We’ve got 3.5 million layabouts on benefits, and I’m 76, getting up at 6am to go to work to keep them. Let’s get everybody back to work so we can save a couple of billion and cut tax, not keep sticking it up.

What’s happening in Britain is a cautionary tale that should be heeded by all Americans, especially those in the Obama administration.

It doesn’t take a genius to recognize that if doing business in America becomes too expensive, rich people and big business will set up shop where it’s less expensive.

And they’ll take their jobs with them.
