The Western Canon of literature has been all but emasculated in recent decades by left-wing PC forces that rule academia.
Dead European White Males are, in some cases, automatically excluded from curricula on the grounds that their formerly high regard is merely the product of patriarchal white society that has historically discriminated against women and minorities.
Translation: Maya Angelou is really better than William Shakespeare.
And if you’re a black man and you want to get the respect of the liberal academy, all you have to do is kill a white cop, get sentenced to death and then spend every waking moment of your time on death row penning hyperbolic college commencement addresses.
Listen to this blog post from Moonbattery (an admittedly right wing blog):
When liberal fascism kills freedom, it will be by the death of 1,000 cuts. One cut was inflicted yesterday at the prestigious prep school Choate Rosemary Hall, where a commencement address by Karl Rove was nixed because leftist students didn’t want to hear his mild opinions.
Maybe Choate should follow the lead of UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, Antioch College, Occidental College, Evergreen State College, et al. and have radical leftist and vicious convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal give a recorded commencement. That way they wouldn’t have to worry about any frightening disturbances.
Those who do not deserve freedom won’t have it indefinitely.
(Some of the left’s prison-heroes can scribble on a napkin and some self-annointed, holier-than-thou, do-gooder will see it as profound beyond measure.)
Okay, I’ve climbed down from my soap box.
Below is the Online Tax Canon, a compendium of the top 10 free online sources of tax law, advice and information.
In most cases, I have no clue as to the color or gender of the author or manager of the site.
In all cases, I do not care.
ONLINE TAX CANON
- The Internal Revenue Service - The IRS site is excellently organized and contains seemingly limitless information and resources for both taxpayers and tax professionals. You will rarely conclude your tax research here, but this is the place all research should start.
- Tax Analysts – A partially free site, Tax Analysts is a nonprofit publisher that provides the latest and most in-depth tax information worldwide. By working for the transparency of tax rules, fostering increased dialogue between taxing authorities and taxpayers, and providing forums for education and debate, Tax Analysts encourages the creation of tax systems that are fairer, simpler, and more economically efficient.
- Tax Almanac- The Wikipedia of taxation, Tax Alamanac is an open-source encyclopedia of tax and finance related articles and information. It is an excellent source of basic information about tax policy and practice, but should never be a tax researcher’s only source.
- Tax Foundation - A must link for all tax professionals, the mission of the Tax Foundation is to educate taxpayers about sound tax policy and the size of the tax burden borne by Americans at all levels of government. From its founding in 1937, the Tax Foundation has been grounded in the belief that the dissemination of basic information about government finance is the foundation of sound policy in a free society.
- Tax Sites.Com – Contains links to hundreds of more specialized tax and finance sites.
- Tax-News.Com (USA) – Provides a daily, worldwide tax news service with an archive of more than 12,000 articles and stories.
- United States Tax Court – The latest tax court decisions published in their entirety, tax court rules, and short biographies of the Tax Court judges.
- Tax Policy Center – The Tax Policy Center is a joint venture of the Urban Institute and Brookings Institution. The Center is made up of nationally recognized experts in tax, budget, and social policy who have served at the highest levels of government.
- TaxProf Blog – The only blog in the Canon, Professor Paul Caron posts several times a day providing readers with links to popular tax articles and papers and analyses of recent tax developments. A great one-stop-shop of all things taxation.
- Andrew Mitchell Tax Charts - Mitchell and his staff have done a daunting amount of work in creating beautifully organized, color charts that demonstrate the operation of various provisions of the tax code, revenue rulings and court rulings.
What do you think of the Canon? Anything missing? Is something on there that shouldn’t be on there?
I would love to hear your thoughts.
