Per yesterday’s Miami Herald:
Warming up the McCain crowd: Jorge Luis López, a Republican running for state house District 107 [said],”We know why Democrats are supporting Obama’s tax plan . . . . most of them don’t pay taxes and the rest of them cheat on them.”
Apparently, that includes his opponent, Democrat Luis Garcia.
“My opponent…cheats on his taxes,” he said. “That’s why he supports Obama’s tax plan.”
López, who is running for Garcia’s House seat, has been attacking Garcia, the incumbent, about a 2007 homestead exemption (which, among other things, limits increases in tax assessments) on his Miami Beach condominium. Garcia bought the condo in 2005, but has been living in another Miami home since being elected in late 2006.
Apparently, Garcia failed to notify the property appraiser’s office that the condo was no longer his primary residence and in July the office declined an automatic renewal of the homestead exemption.
López says Garcia intentionally didn’t withdraw the exemption in order to save money on property taxes.

I live in Miami and I personally know of many people who cheat on their taxes. There are so many of my own neigbors who either own a small business usually landscapers, hanyman or other service bussines and they brag about making close to $100,000 a year, yet since they get paid in cash for most jobs, they only claim to make $20,000 a year. They also claim the earned income credit and get back $4000 on their tax returns. These are the same people who are crazy about Obama!

That’s why we have cops and prisons. If everyone followed the law, we wouldn’t need either.
If they claim to make 20k per year they’d better not be living like someone who makes 100k per year or they will, eventually, get nailed. The IRS can reconstruct a taxpayer’s true income by examining his expenditures.
By the way, I am sure there are tax cheats who are voting for McCain, too.

Obama himself cheats on his Cook County property taxes. The assessed value of his home has been doctored comically low(so low as to invite scrutiny and snitching from inside the assessor’s office). A City of Chicago Southside Alderman named Troutman got caught for the same thing recently.

Mere accusations are not proof.
Just because you think the value of his home has been “doctored” so that he pays less property taxes, doesn’t make it so.
If you have evidence, submit it to the state prosecutor’s office or a member of the press.
If you don’t have evidence, it isn’t fair to make the accusation.
